A ruined holiday
There’s been much in the press over the last couple of years about Holiday Sickness claims and whilst the media has been dominated by fake claims there are still a number of genuine claims from becoming poorly whilst abroad.
Since 2013 there has been a 500% increase in claims for compensation resulting from sickness whilst on holiday.
Firstly, it’s never nice to find yourself ill on holiday. You’re likely to have spent all year saving for a week or two in the sun to then find yourself laid up in your hotel room constantly dashing to the bathroom.
Whilst we do ask you to exert caution when travelling abroad, especially when it comes to the local water and hygiene standards, we do appreciate that you are on holiday to have fun and probably haven’t taken your magnifying glass with you to check for unclean work surfaces.
If you do become ill whilst on holiday, it’s important to follow some simple guidelines in order to make things easier when it comes to making a claim.
- Report your illness to your Travel Rep and/or to the Hotel Reception
- Take photos of anything which may prove that’s how you became ill
- Document any visits by or to the doctors and keep a list of any medication prescribed
- If you become sick after you have returned home, visit your GP and get a record of the visit
All of the evidence you have gathered will be used to piece together your case so the more you have, the better. Even if you have pre-existing medical conditions, you still have the right to a sickness claim.
And a word of warning, if you’re claim isn’t genuine, you’re likely to be found out! It’s just not worth the hassle of making a fake claim.
